Friends and Colleagues — People I Would Trust as Vendors!

Miscellaneous Info and Links Worth Sharing

I use both Firefox and Internet Explorer. What I like about Firefox is 1) Web pages seem to display more quickly, 2) I can selectively filter out images from ad servers (so when I’m using “My Yahoo,” for example, I can block annoying ads that keep coming from the same servers),  3) I can open web pages in Tabs, enabling me to switch pages easily, 4) I can drag frequently used Favorites or Folders right onto the tool bar for quick access, 5) a Google Search box is built in and always ready to go, right from the menu bar, 6) You can “clear” your Search history and cookies, etc. (for better security) with a quicky menu item that pops up when you are shutting down, 7) If you shut down without closing Firefox, it will remember all the tabs and windows you had open and give you a chance to reopen them when you start up again. This saves a lot of time!  The techies say it will do a lot more with the many additional plug-ins available, but I’ve not used any of them yet. I really recommend it! And you don’t have to uninstall Internet Explorer… you can use both… so there’s really no risk to trying it!

  • FREE telephone calls anywhere and an extra phone line with magicJack – If you have a high speed net connection, buy magicJack(around $40), plug it in a USB port, then plug in a telephone. We got one, we love it, it works great!
  • FREE Fax & Voice Mail — E-Fax and Voice Mail– These people will provide you with a free fax phone number and a free voice mail phone number. When someone sends you a fax or leaves a voice mail message using this number, it is automatically sent to your e-mail box as an attachment to an e-mail message. You then click on this attachment and a little program allows you to read the fax (and print it) or play back the voice message and hear it through your computer speakers. I love this product! It eliminates the need for a second telephone line and lets me pick up faxes and voice mails anywhere I can pick up e-mail.
